Getting Starcraft to run on Windows 7

I recommend

I haven’t played Starcraft in forever and decided to play it again. I went out and bought a copy which surprisingly is still in the store given its age. I was a bit worried about being able to get Starcraft to run on 64 bit Windows 7 but I found a solution on Youtube from JimmyRogain that works for me.

I thought this solution was very insightful. Nice fix :-)

I’m running Starcraft on 64 bit Windows 7 using a batch file like the one described in the video. I’ve included a sample batch file you can download from this link. If you are running 64 bit you’ll need to change the path to Program Files (x86) or change the path to your installation directory.

I hope this helps :-D Happy crafting :-)

EDIT:

These are the compatibility settings I use for the starcraft.exe file.

I haven’t tried the various permutations, but what is pictured seems to work for me.

To install the star craft, it requires me to use disk 1 (star craft org) and half way through installing it is asks for brood wars to finish the last 50% of the installation. When it hits 99% done, a error pops up and canceled the installaion. This is what it said. The file "C:\Program Files (86)\StarCraft.temp\maps.\temp\scenario.temp" could not be renamed to "C:\Program Files (x86)StarCraft.temp\maps.temp\scenario". (ConflictManager::ResolveConflict/1) I just bought a Dell, Smd athlon II X4 64 bit operation system, windows7 Any help would be great .. I love the old SC brood war.

Hmm...it looks like the installer is having an issue with the Program Files (x86) folder. First try installing Starcraft to a folder other than Program Files. So install it to something like c:\games\Starcraft. If this doesn't work, I would also suggest trying to run the setup program as Administrator. So if the Starcraft install starts automatically once you insert the disk, exit the installer. Browse the install CD, find the installer executable. It might be setup.exe (I don't have the CD handy so I'm not sure of the executable name). Right click on the install executable and choose Run as Administrator. I hope this helps.
